A scrapbook of Stout music director Harold R. Cooke containing newspaper articles and occasional programs relating to the Stout Symphonic Singers. Originally a woman's organization, the Stout Symphonic Singers was organized by Cooke in the fall of 1937. The group was a vocal organization accompanied by an orchestra and a string ensemble. Under Cooke's leadership the music group made a number of national appearances including a 1937 tour to Indianapolis, Indiana, a 1939 tour to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. where they sang for Eleanor Roosevelt and also sang in the rotunda of the Senate Building. In 1940 the Stout Symphonic Singers sang at the New York World's Fair, and in the years 1941 to 1944 they toured Wisconsin and northern Illinois singing for individuals in military service.
